A behavior of the topics editor

Pages: 12
Hello everyone, I am encountering an issue here, It seems I cannot format my text when I try to post a new topic, if I click the code button for example, I do not see the code tag in the content edit box, If I decide to submit anyway(that after I click that button) I get an error in this page https://legacy.cplusplus.com/forum/thread.cgi

Anyone encounter the issue too, and how to solve it?

Edit:
Also the preview button does not work, it gives a blank post

PS: I do not encounter this issue while replying, only when write the topic for the first time.

I don't know about the error but everything else you say have been like that forever. In the new version of this site the preview issue seems to be fixed but you can still not use the format buttons.

I sill use the legacy old css look))) kinda love it) I will check the newer one when I ask a new question.

thank you @Peter
I encountered many problems with the previous version (and the new one too) until I installed an ad blocker app. The ads generated many bugs which dissalowed some features... Now all work fine as expected ++

Even the problem with the "format" buttons?

Maybe you use the other version when I use the new one... or I misunderstood you.

But now I notice a bug in order to LogIn after a deconnexion which I did so as to try the older version for you. The button LogIn does not work. Clicking on it, I have a page with a 0 and nothing more. I have to post an answer to get the loging page again ++

@Geckoo, try @Peter87's solution here:
https://cplusplus.com/forum/lounge/284671/#msg1233786
(i.e. hold down the CTRL key when you press the login button).

This site is giving some major headaches when trying to run from Firefox (at least for Windows; I haven't tried it on linux yet). You need some fairly severe ad-blocking or you get well and truly stuck, and logging in to the new site requires this CTRL-button fix. The legacy site doesn't have trouble logging in, but still needs the ad-blocking.
@lastchance Thanks for the tip. It works, but I still don't understand what it means :)
I use Adblock Plus with Firefox which is fine - but this still leaves the Login issue (which is easy to get around when you know how!).
The same for me - AdBlock Plus under FireFox the latest release.
Obviously the best solution ++

Yes. The problem with the format buttons is only present when creating a new topic (thread) not when writing a reply to an already existing topic.

, Here clearly you trying to reply, so the buttons works fine, but try to do that while you write a new post, I think then you will understand my problem.

PS: I mentioned in my first post so I will quote myself!!!

I got that too

Really I am trying to reproduce your bug, but I cannot...
bug ? std::cout << "something goes wrong here" << std::endl : std::cout << "it works as expected" << std::endl;
As you can see, there is no problem to format some parts. I start a new post right now which I will erase soon...

I mean open a new topic not reply++
I understand. I can reproduce the bug. I agree with you - for a first post, we cannot use format sometimes. Often I started some requests here and I have never encountered this problem. Really weird ++

@lastchance Thanks for the tip. And also a big thank to @Peter for
I just happened to stumble upon it ...
. I guess if 7 or 8 people keeps stumbling here and there, then all our problems will be solved without the intervention of the dev team) will I'll try my share))))))

Yes @Geckoo, thats the page I got ))))

also that's a good way of providing more info to use https://imgbb.com/

Yes it's free.
As they say "ImgBB is a free image hosting service. Upgrade to unlock all the features".
Thank you)++
The legacy version of the fora was decidedly crippled when it came to creating a new topic, no formatting or preview allowed. Some of that behavior was fixed with this new version, though not all of it apparently.

Most of the regulars, myself included, learned a long time ago to deal with the deficiencies, that is part of the price to use this free online resource. Small price to pay. :Þ
