I'm avidly against the company as he ran it, but I still find it a shame that he's gone. A lot of cool stuff came out either due to his work, or through extension.
Agree. What I don't like is the closed system. He does not offer developers a chance to do serious development on his platform. Even if you did, you are developing for a closed system which does not fit my character and taste well.

But to give credit when due, he does innovate and bring great conveniences to the world.
I just found out I am so sad. I hope his family the best of luck. Truly an innovative man.
Poor Steve. Apparently, he had surgery to have that cancer removed, but I suppose it mustn't have been fully successful. To put it in Randal Munroe's terms, "Man. Fuck cancer. Seriously."

Although I am not a member of Apple's target audience by a long shot, I am sorry that after all his fighting, Steve lost. Memento mori.

It is just humor. It does not offend anyone. And if a child was on a C++ forum that child is a genius and should know what that word means.

But still not all child is a genius. I would think OP should put some asterisk like say f*ck for e.g

Now back to original topic. Anyone wonder why he did not put some of his family members into the running of the company? In Asia, a lot of companies are passed down from father to sons/daughters and so on and so forth. Seems Western businessmen are quite different in their thinking?

RIP Steve Jobs. I never liked Apple, never bought an Apple product, and never really wanted one; but still - RIP.

Please can we not turn this thread into a flamewar about what language is and isn't acceptable?
@sohguanh - in the west we like to have people well qualified for running companies, so just taking a family member will mean the company has a very good chance of failing. Steve Jobs' son or daughter may want to be an artist or doctor and may have no interest let alone talent for running a mult-million dollar technology giant like Apple.

I am a little dissolutioned by Jobs' lack of generosity, so much money but kept it all to himself. My hero is Bill Gates because (1) he quit to enjoy life a little - because even with billions in the bank you will not live forever! (2) he gives his money away, because hey, you cant take it with you when you go!

Lol, bill gates gives his money away because he has more than is humanly possible to spend selfishly. He could buy a friggin country if he wanted and it's citizens were willing.
Steve was also a multi billionaire so what's your point?
who, me? My post was in response to a124763's second paragraph. Since I never knew either of them personally it would be foolish to pass judgement on the character of one or the other.

Nobody has really said anything bad about Steve Jobs, some people said they didn't like how he ran his company but nobody has insulted him.

Chill out, everyone. Please. This is shameful to the point of being embarrasing.

Nobody should be saying anything negative of any sort. Not against Steve, nor Apple, nor Bill Gates (why was he even brought up?). It defeats the point of this thread entirely.

This is about rememberance and respect. All of that gets undermined when people drag in negativity. For a simple rule: don't post anything in this thread that you wouldn't say aloud at a funeral.

I know very little about Steve Jobs and what he did, but I know that he and those closest to him deserve some respect.
