Is this cool?

I want to support the author and it's nice to have a hardback, but it's an expensive book. Should I actually buy it? And is this even legal, since its a 2005 book it should still have a copyright. I'm really tempted to download it nonetheless...
I wouldn't if I were you. Think about it many people learn C++ without paying a cent and not doing illegal things. But if you want to it's on you but I would recommend going to a library. I got C++ for dummies (2010) for free and completely legal.
lol, well I'm definitely not getting a for dummies book, but as far as the ethical question posed above, I suppose you're right I'll just check out a library if I decide I need the book. I've read several other C++ books but this is a "standard" of sorts I suppose.

There's a fifth edition of that book, you know.

No, you're thinking of C++ Primer Plus.
There's nothing wrong with the "For Dummies" series. I actually bought a version of the "C++ For Dummies" and it helped me fill in some holes when I was younger. If you're worried that it might be too verbose and that would frustrate you then I can tell you from first hand experiance that it is not as bad as ANYTHING written by J.K. Rolling.
