I am trying Mint for the first time, after a very long experience in using Windows from win xp (My best version to date) to win10 (Hopefully my last version).
I am using Mint on my laptop. My experience so far has been generally positive. Graphics stuff worked mostly out of the box. Had to manually install a driver to get some sort of dock/usb hub to work.
The dumb thing to me is hibernation being so hard to enable. You need to manually set up a bunch of stuff from the command-line to get it to work. I've also been having power problems in general, like the screen not coming back on after going to sleep/suspend.
I'm ok with tinkering to get it to work, but it's not the sort of thing I would recommend to a non-technical family member. Still less frustrating than Windows though :)
I really like the Linux filesystem over Windows.
Mounting phones in Linux is bug-free for me, while it's riddled with bugs in Windows.
I thought Windows system is far better. For example, currently i am struggling in renaming files. In Windows you just click and click again, it is faster. In Mint you have either to rename from menu or f2.
NTFS was a reaction to the world loosing their files on FAT*. It's a transactional store, hugely slow. I think the only slower file system is ZFS. No, the Windows file system is not better.
What do you do when it freezes?
What's it? Linux does not normally freeze. I ran Mint on one host for years, it never froze.

I'm not sure what the implication is. That Linux uses something less secure but faster than NTFS? Lmao.
Both Windows and Linux have a very similar "transactional store" as you called it. And how would compare speed apples to apples when you'd inherently be testing Linux vs Windows file i/o, which we'd already say Windows is more sluggish (windows defender literally scans every file during a move operation, for example)?
