Isn't the default installed one sufficient?

A couple of years ago, I used Total-AV. Then discovered that they were still taking subscriptions long after I cancelled. They were quick to refund what they agreed was taken in error, but they still kept a years worth of money.

the built in one is actually pretty good. These rankings can change over time, this is from a little over a year ago, but still, I think its probably safe to say its more or less still reasonably accurate. A bit farther back, the MS one was not good, but they really upped their game.

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/microsoft-windows-defender-security-center#:~:text=Microsoft%20Defender%20scores%209.6%2C%20which,and%20Avira%20score%20still%20lower.

Microsoft Defender scores 9.6, which is quite a good score. It’s better than any other free product tested with this same sample set. Adaware, Avast, and Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition all score 9.2, while Kaspersky, Panda, and Avira score still lower.

you can argue that 9.2 is also a pretty good score.

MS has finally figured out they needed to create an anti-virus tool that is robust and isn't a total resource hog.

One thing I do miss with the current Win 10 version, creating an automated scheduled repeat scan event as an option in Defender's settings. Win 7 version had that feature.

I use the anti-virus which is embedded in Windows10 - no more.
However in the past I used Avast (free version) :

MS’s Defender is perfectly fine.

Don’t do risky stuff.

I have a personal dislike of AV vendors. I think they’re scummy as... well, I don’t like them. Any of the big AV vendors will work well enough, though.
