Amazing!! I that cracked me up. I have to wonder why there was not one mention on Linux. They spoke about rewriting Unix in C++. Wasn't that the original motivation behind Linux? To have a Unix like OS that was free and open source.
No. That was Stallman's motivation to start GNU. Torvalds' original motivation was to have a UNIX to play with that wasn't Minix, because it was crap (according to him).
It wasn't that Minix sucked. The creator of Minix was his professor. Torvalds had a different opinion about how things should go about and Minix had another. One was right, the other was wrong. There is a large discussion about it and the media even tried to escalate the debate so Linux looked like a rip of Minix. Fortunately, his professor stood up for him and basically shoved it into the interviewers face. Linux would not be here today if it weren't for Minix, not because it was crap, but because it was based and inspired by Minix and he apparently was inspired by his professor as well. More when I get back.
