Amazing!! I that cracked me up. I have to wonder why there was not one mention on Linux. They spoke about rewriting Unix in C++. Wasn't that the original motivation behind Linux? To have a Unix like OS that was free and open source.

No. That was Stallman's motivation to start GNU. Torvalds' original motivation was to have a UNIX to play with that wasn't Minix, because it was crap (according to him).

I thought he wanted to learn about the x86??? He first set about something to write AAAABBBBAAAABBBBB or something.

Now i know this was a joke but ... one idea crossed my mind!

Is C++ to live forever?

For someone starting now is this still a good choice as programming language?

I've been using it because of Qt but now, with NOKIA, everything happens so tham fast?!

I thought he wanted to learn about the x86?
Yeah, that too. But I think the fact that Minix sucked was a bigger contributor.

Is C++ to live forever?
Nothing will live forever

For someone starting now is this still a good choice as programming language?
Most of the programs are written in C++ or in C

What about D?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D_(programming_language)#Metaprogramming

Could it be a natural replacement for C++?

¡Arg! Not this again.
¡No!
And neither will Objective-C
Oct 16, 2009 at 4:11pm
Is because you prefer C#?
Oct 16, 2009 at 4:16pm
To D? No. I don't like either, but I dislike C# more.

I was joking

It wasn't that Minix sucked. The creator of Minix was his professor. Torvalds had a different opinion about how things should go about and Minix had another. One was right, the other was wrong. There is a large discussion about it and the media even tried to escalate the debate so Linux looked like a rip of Minix. Fortunately, his professor stood up for him and basically shoved it into the interviewers face. Linux would not be here today if it weren't for Minix, not because it was crap, but because it was based and inspired by Minix and he apparently was inspired by his professor as well. More when I get back.

The creator of Minix was his professor.
No, he wasn't. Tanenbaum was a professor at his university, but it wasn't his professor.

I never said that Minix sucked. I said that Torvalds said that it sucked.

D is a systems programming language. Its focus is on combining the power and high performance of C and C++ with the programmer productivity of modern languages like Ruby and Python. Special attention is given to the needs of quality assurance, documentation, management, portability and reliability.

Being this true ... is it so bad to sai ARGGG?!

Do you say it because ... or just because?

PS:
Torvalds said that it sucked

For a teenager everything sucks :)

"¡Arg!" because the question's been asked several times before.
Do you say it because ... or just because?
You can find out why I say it by searching the forum.

Tarballs was 23 when he wrote his kernel, I think.

Tarballs? What the hell?
Oct 16, 2009 at 8:34pm
Tarballs = Torvalds
