Wow. I didnt expect to start all this. Now I feel like that whatever compiler I use is going to start a war. Im just a beginner. I dont want to star out wrong but I dont know what to make
of all of this. I was hasty with this post to start with. I should have read the 350 page book in the help file first. Ive already found what I was doing wrong. I will finish the book before I post any more questions and hopefuly they will be more intelligent than my first post here. I will continue to use wxDev-C++ for now, till I get past the beginner stage anyway. Even if it makes some people gag at the thought of dealing with this compiler I hope it doesnt turn people off when help is needed. After I get thru the beginers stage of C++ I hope to know more about compilers and will make a good choice then. Please bare with me for now. Mike.

Anyone who starts a flame war about Visual Studio is an idiot.

Read the article by Zaita about IDEs and compilers if you need to choose one: http://cplusplus.com/forum/articles/7263/

Personally I just use gedit, gnome terminal, gcc/g++, as, ld and make.

I just tried wxDevC++ today and I found it to be very similar to DevC++ except it has a GUI builder for wxWidget library. I also found some bugs with the GUI builder which crashes the whole IDE.

Wow, you guys sure got fired up over such a trivial thing as the IDE. The main problem with Dev-C++ is not its IDE. It's the compiler, which is broken beyond repair.

Having said that, the IDE is not great, either.

@helios,
Holy wars, eh?

@helios

Not to mention that Dev-C++ is no longer updated or supported and lacks features such as Intellisense.
