As I interpret the question...
If you want to close the console window but leave the program still running, call
If you want to kill the program from the console window, type Ctrl-C in the console window.

Anyways you may just let it run in an infinite loop, looking for some function that just waits randomly like in Windows "Sleep" until user presses X.
