Is it possible?

So you are saying that you are to plant a virus that will be dormant and wait for real viruses to come and kill them all? There would be no real solution on how to eliminate viruses but use their own mechanism to get them out. You could create something that will look for what-could-be viruses but you cannot do anything to take them out.
My idea was to create a search and destroy software , that doesn`t slow your PC. It comes, kills the target ( change the file extension or something like that) and selfdestructs ... No trace , no problem for the user , and no viruses at all. The viruses spread away.Once you wipe them all out - there will be no virus at all. Just like the "Smallpox".

What you are saying is completely possible...its called making an Anti-virus software program and selling it online. It will spread among computers when people pay you the 'cachin' $$$ it is up to them to remove or keep it afterwards.

to be serious, it is possible but you have to understand there are thousands of viruses out there, you would need a HUUUGGEE database with all their names and cleaning methods and + you would have to write an engine that can read and interpret those methods of cleaning out each virus.......why do it in secret when you can just develop a free software anti-virus application and help people out that way?

I bet the anti-virus companies pay other people to make viruses for them, otherwise, they wouldn't stay in bussiness.
first - my project will be free of charge...
second - AV are designed to kill many types of viruses but they use huge databases - thus huge OS resources which i try to avoid.
Never mind the formidable technical and legal difficulties with this. Anyone with any sense already has virus protection and updates it regularly (yes I know people with sense are rather rare). BUT, the viruses written yesterday or today are the ones to be feared. How will your software help control them when you don't yet have their signatures to look for? There are currently over 4000 new viruses and worms created every month and that number is escalating.

I applaud your concept and honorable intentions but I think that this type of protection should be built into the OS. That way all users can benefit by a transparent, maintenance-free protection scheme. M$ is already adding this type of thing.

The true solution is to internationalize (i18n) the enforcement and penalties for this type of egregious behavior. As long as some 20 year-old hacker is driving around Romania in his BMW 735 he "earned" by ripping off a bunch of Americans, and being applauded by his people and ignored by his police for it to boot, this problem will be with us.
I think there are also such things as "heuristic" algorithms. I have Kaspersky Internet Security and it these mechanisms which allow it to attempt to detect viruses without signatures.

They have never detected a virus, although as far as I am aware I have never got one... They did however, repeatedly delete my Red Faction Geurrilla executable - an example of a false positive!

Just make sure your detection algorithm doesn't mark your own program as a "virus"...
