tray and print messages?

hi guys.

i am planning on creating 2 little applications for a client but Im not sure where to start because i haven't worked on these before.

one of the apps will allow him to select a program from a list and hide its tray icon. i assume that i would have to send a message to that program that will make the tray icon disappear but Im not sure which.

the other app would keep count on printed documents (independent of how many printers are installed on the pc). is there a message that i cam catch from apps requesting print operations? or is there a better way for this particular case?

any links/info on the subject would be appreciated.
