starting windows programming

i need help starting windows programming. i've purchased "windows programming for dummies", done everything it said, and get an error. i've been using c++ for almost a year and a half. does anyone know of any really good books/websites/totorials to use? because i still can't even make a window without an error. any help is greatly appriciated!!!

If want to program Windows, you need to buy Charles Petzold's book, "Programming Windows". It is THE bible for Windows programming.
