I have just put up a website online that I am hosting off of my computer... http://192.168.1.104 is the website address...It is a download site for my C++ Programs and suggestions...if you have any ideas...just email me from the about page..
Note: The site is only up when my pc is on...so mostly during the day and some on the night on the weekends...
@OP: That's great news! My website is http://127.0.0.1 . Could you do me a favor and try to DOS it with LOIC or something? I would like to see what happens.
EDIT: On a serious note though, it isn't that expensive to pay for a hosting service and you really don't want to give out your home IP for a number of reasons.
you really don't want to give out your home IP for a number of reasons.
Yeah, I don't a lot about, so please correct me if I am wrong.
People can get the general area of where you live w/ your ip address easy.
I know they can get the town and maybe closer than that. I know within 6 miles.
Apart from that there is being the trouble of DDOS or DOS attack, or even a exploit to be tried towards you IP if successful they can get Access to your PC and then they can infect you with a Rootkit to stay in control.
Then there is the idea of getting close enough address, that could give them idea of nationality you MAY originate from for example if the country is a 3rd world country it is obvious you were born there because not many people settle in 3rd world countries because of war or other obvious reasons, then there is the idea of people trying to DOX you.
You are correct, it is my private super secret proxy server. If you don't want anyone to know what sites you are trying to access then I suggest you set all of your web browsers proxy settings to http://127.0.0.1 . If you do this I promise no one on the internet will ever see what you are doing >:). And after that I also have some host file entries that you might be interested in and a bridge in New York that I can sell to you surprisingly cheap.
OP, simply put, it will not work. Though running your own server can be fun to experiment with, a safer bet is to use an external hosting service or something like blogspot for this.
