qt

a while ago someone told me to use the cross platform qt library if i wanted to create a application window in linix. i went to the web site and downloaded the sdk. but when i ran it it wanted glibcxx some static liabary i think. does anyone know where to find this glibcxx what ever it is? im sorry this isn't a programming question but im a big noob at linux and this is the only community i know to talk to. also im running the file in roots home directory perhaps it needs to be ran somewhere else? i have no idea.....

I can try to point you in the right direction at least. What distro are you using. I'm surprised you had to download the qt sdk from the web site. I'm running Opensuse 12.1 beta and I used the package management to do it. I believe there are packages for ubuntu, too. I would definately advise using the packages for your distro. But that's just me. The best place for these type of questions would be the forums for your distro. So far I've found someone using CENTOS that had the same problem. His take on it was that he needed updated glibc packages and libstdc++ packages.

I am trying my way with Qt also so maybe I can give you my approach. I use Qt creator which is made for programming Qt and helps a lot. Some library dependencies are dealt this way. I would suggest to try it out.
