ubuntu chat plugin

hi all,
i want to write a plugin for ubuntu chat software
when a person listen to a music with a music player such as banshee or ... the status in messenger set with the name of the music that listen with music player..
how can i connected this two software with each other in linux? does it have any protocol or ...?? thanks

It's not Linux specific. It's up to the music player you use, since it interprets meta data from the music file.

but in pidgin in linux we can choos our music player and it support all of them ....
how can i get this metad data from music player and send them to messenger status
