Greetings! This website is awesome and I really appreciate the hard work that is being put into it. :)
I just thought the fora should have a search function to type in keywords and check if anyone posted with those keywords before. This would help in stopping users from posting the same question in several threads and would clean up any confusion.
If you search for something, you can use google by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. Quite convenient, although a bit misleading. You can't type in the searchbox there or you'll get the normal site search engine -- must click the link.
I think the site's default search only searches the reference section. You do have to use the google link (or external) to find posts/topics of interest.
It may prioritize the reference, but it does search the forums.
A test: keep console open
The site: Why does the program not show on screen?http://cplusplus.com/forum/beginner/70600/
The first one for the fora, it was the 28th result. Before it shows users profiles.
I think I was misunderstood. I meant a Search function specifically for the fora. What I meant was this. When I type "Greetings!" on the Search function, my Original Post should show up. That is: a tool that searches keywords posted in the fora.
I think what Ahaanomegas is trying to say, is that as a forum, it lacks, let's say, modernity...
A test: "qt" --> nothing
use google to search this site for "qt" --> 2.650 results (only in this forum!)
When you know how to really find your answer, it's not that bad, but if not, "No results found for 'qt'" is what you get, and then you go to the forum and ask "HEEELP, I need somebody HEEELP, with Qt"
I'm with Ahaanomegas, a dedicated search tool for the forum won't hurt...
and why on earth would I want to see 20 profiles before what I'm really looking for?
