Its cause some people genuinely like programming. Also there are a lot more unsuccessful business men then there are successful ones. Also there are people who are just plain bad at business, so they don't try.
<programmer bashing>Well, IMO almost anyone can be a programmer. It's really not as hard as people make it out to be. Alternatively, not everyone has the aptitude to perform welding on a live natural gas pipeline, rewire a building, rebuild an engine, or do pretty much anything that involves mechanical inclination and above-average common sense. I personally think that people should get paid proportionally to how hard they (physically) work. That would mean that people who sit in front of a computer or talk on a phone all day long should make much less than people who are out working with their hands in a skilled position. Thankfully, that's how it is where I live, and why I work full-time as a mechanic rather than a programmer.

No programmers were (physically) harmed in the posting of this reply.
They waste their time for the same reason anyone wastes their time with a job, because they love it. Don't know why people think there is more to it.
Of course, I don't know why anyone is wasting their time answering this thread. It's just spoon licker posting more idiocy threads. I mean really, BooleanBoy turned out to be him and I'm betting BooleanGirl is him too. This thread is too similar to his other threads (either anit-oop or anti-programming). First time I've ever seen a trolling addict. Leaves for a few days/weeks then comes back for another fix.
