Good software on the ipod touch (linux)

Hello,
I have an ipod touch and have been looking to get some good software on it for some time now. Jailbreak looks okay, but I'd rather have something that adds support for new things, and let you sync to windows/linux without itunes.

A good way to go about this I think, would be building a small version of linux (or using an existing one like puppy linux) out of a good window manager, desktop manager, and multimedia player. I was thinking of using dolphin, gnome, and vlc, as this would add support for FLAC, more flexibility for syncing, and would be better overall.

There would be much difficulty in flashing the touch and getting touch support working (maybe just a few gestures or a mouse working) and it would take awhile, but I'd like to try. Let me know what you think or if you want to help, I'll probably post in a puppy linux forum or gnome/ect, and read up on the things I'm trying to do.

http://www.iphonelinux.org/index.php/Main_Page - it's a good idea to have open software, espically if it's better than that you pay for...

Ended up selling the ipod touch as it's about as proprietary as you can get. Got a cowon iaudio7 - http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/iaudio/7/ loads more useful. Thanks anyways,

That was just plan silly. There are tons of free iTunes replacements out there...

Wasn't talking about iTunes (not that it didn't need replacing), was talking about the software on the device. Problem solved though...
