Programming with your eyes closed.

Hello everyone,

When my eyes are tired, I just start programming with my eyes closed. (Although, I open my eyes every ~20 seconds to make sure that I did not screw up ^_^)

I was wondering if I have lost my mind, or if any one else does this :P

Anyone can code with their eyes closed, but there's no guarantee that the code will even make sense. Still, if your eyes are closing when your tired, it's your brain informing you that its shutting down (not permanently, obviously) so it can get some sleep. Sleep deprivation can do that to ya'. Amazing, really.

Back to the question in hand, no, I don't code with my eyes closed; bad practice, an' all.

xD I mean like when they are sore... not tired really (8:00+ hrs of 3 computer screens hurt my eyes... heh.)

EDIT: or maybe I just need some sleep.. lol

What do you mean by sore? Dry eyes? That can be a symptom of eye strain. Maybe you need glasses?

Well you program so you have lost your mind for sure, just not for coding with you eyes closed. Everyone has their own method for doing everything.
Try turning down the brightness and using a black background in your editor. I do that, and my eyes feel fine, even after going all night.
I can't say I program with my eyes closed. I always usually program in a well-lit environment, and I make sure to take frequent occasional brakes. I mostly agree with ModShop on this point: try setting a black background on your editor and turning down your screen brightness.

For a while, I would program with one hand while having to hold my old MacBook's computer screen so that it'd refresh, but that's a tangent. :P

@BHXSpecter Amen lol
@ModShop I have my screens at the lowest brightness level... and I use black backgrounds in vim :-/
@Albatross taking breaks might help... I only breaks for lunch atm
@Wazzak If all else fails, I will go get an eye test..
For an unrelated reason I reduced the color temperature of the screen.

This may help your eyes hurt less if you are working in front of the screen at night.

Have a look at F.lux[1] you may find it helpful.

Yeah, I have 5 classes at school (all programming) plus my freelance work, so breaks (and sometimes sleep) aren't an option; however, I do find that it helps to use some "liquid tears" to moisten your eyes a bit.
@Randi Miller: A little bit off topic here, but I was just curious about your school. 5 subjects and all Programming? What subjects are they? Sounds just like my dream school. :)
