Ninja'd

Does anyone know where this came from? I've been saying it for a while, and I'm noticing other people saying it also.

I don't know if I was the first to introduce it to this board or not. I also don't know where I picked it up from (did I make it up myself?). So I'm really curious.

For those that don't know, if you reply to answer someone's question only to find that someone else slipped in and answered it before you were able to post, then you just got ninja'd.
Statistically speaking there is a non 0 chance that it originated on 4chan.org/b/.

Realistically speaking there is no way in hell to find out who said it first. I first saw it used like that on Gaia Online back in 06 (Yes, gaia. In my defense I was 13-14)
Sure Disch, rub it in :p

EDIT: Also, I've seen it used on other forums before frequenting this one

Ninja'd is used because Pirated means something completely different. Any further questions?

Jokes aside, I did some Googling around, and this is what I came up with:
The term "ninja'd" did not emerge here. It is older, and turned up in MUDs back in the early 90s, pretty much as soon as people started competing in realtime over posts on USENET or on BBSes.
It would have been nice to claim "we invented ninja'd!" but it would simply not be true.

Way back when, we used to say (in a cod 'asian' accent) 'Ninja!' when cutting in front of people in queues or grabbing the last biscuit on a plate as someone is reaching for it, that kind of thing.
or smacking someone in the face before they move they react :D

From World of Warcraft when you ninja something you take an item unfairly.

I use it regularly too, it seems to have different meanings to different people though.
