After a long summer with no success, I got a job yesterday with Panera Bread Co. (a bakery/cafe style restaurant) Now that I have income to budget I started to design one. Now, I've been wanting to build a new computer for about 2 years. The one I'm running now I built a year ago out of necessity and using budget parts. So of course I looked up the prices for the hardware I was looking at this time last year.. aaaaaand that's when I stumbled upon the next generation of intel processors due out next year. Now, I could buy a 2nd gen core-i7 for about 300 USD, oooor I could wait till the core i7 3930k comes out before I start purchasing parts for my next build. I'll probably have to anyways, but even if I didn't I think I'll hold out for an unlocked 6 core processor with hyperthreading, a 12MB L3 cache and supports quad-channel memory.
Will I use/need all that power for daily activity? Probably not, but seeing as my PC is also my means of gaming and I that kind of raw computational power is sexy I think I'll do it anyways.
Thoughts?
I think getting a PC boils down to what you want to do with it. Very often when I get new PC it is always 1-2 stages behind so I can get it cheap as retailers and manufacturers need to clear stock. But if my needs do not require heavy gaming stuff, those 1-2 stages behind stuff are more than adequate to me.
However, when my frens or even my brother came to take a look at my PC will complain it boots up slow, graphics slow.... in comparison to the latest model he has. I don't know but I guess they are just too caught up with the latest model, brand, speed etc that they have totally forgotten the needs of the PC users isn't it ?
If my needs is surf internet, word processing, simple spreadsheet stuff ain't it fit for "older" PC? I guess we humans are insatiable and we always strive for faster and faster PC just like those car enthusiasts in fast car movies like Fast and Furious. How fast does the car need to speed to satisfy their demands? Maybe they want a flying car instead :P

lol. I just went to google translate to find out what panera means... I don't speak spanish nor do I normally call it Panera. The company started in Saint Louis as "St. Louis Bread Co." The ones around St. Louis are still called that but the rest of their chain goes by Panera.
