I want to make a war game, but I dont really know anything about war. And by war game I dont mean Call Of Duty. I mean like ACTUAL war. And I would like to do with without actually going to war myself. Is there a way?
Thanks i just wiki'd it and it looks like a good book! Next time i go to the library ill pick it up. Right now im just watching a bunch of Afghanistan war documentary's on youtube. I was also thinking that when the time comes to make the game i could hire someone who was actually in war to help me out.
What time period are you looking for? The Art of War is great for generalizations but it has been studied for thousands of years and not everything there is neccessarily "up to date". Also what style of game do you want?
Yeah I made it to the library and picked up The Art of War but im only 20 pages in and all its talked about so far is the validity of the date it was written lol. Im not really sure what style of game i want because i don't really know anything about war. What i want to learn really is:
> The groups in the military and how they operate(i.e Navy, Marines, etc)
> Different troops and how they operate(snipers, footsoldiers, guys in vehicles)
> Military ranks and their importance
> What are the usual causes of wars and how do they usaully end
> Squadrant systems?
And im sure there is a lot of stuff that i can't think of atm or don't know about. The style i was originally thinking was Modern Warfare(like afghanistan) but after learning about The Art of War i started thinking about making it about Old Asian warfare with swords and stuff.
But whatever style of game, i want it to be firstperson and very realistic in terms of gameplay.
