Worth a Read: "A Theory of Fun"

I just got through reading a book titled "A Theory of Fun" in which the author, being a game designer, determines what 'fun' is, and how to put it in games. It ranges from the way our brains think to what games should and shouldn't do - if you develop games at all, you need to read this book. The author discusses how game programming is a (developing) form of media, just like art and music. He also discusses the trends that games have been following (such as using the same exact key concepts and just making them look different), and discussing what trends games should follow. This isn't "how to make a game", but rather, "what a game should be".

Even if you don't develop games, it's still quite an interesting read - and may inspire you to make a game or two :)

The book has a website too: http://www.theoryoffun.com/
