(Valve) Source SDK

I'm fairly confident in Source as an engine, so I wanted to try using it for development. The thing is, the are missing header files, errors in their code and loads of multiply defined symbols which the wiki just tells you to brush under the carpet. now, these problems are solvable, but they hardly inspire confidence.

Has anyone else used the Source SDK at all. What are your experiences with it?
Yeah, I have in this context: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Hammer_Editor

What is it you're trying to do? Make a game?

Well, muck around with it to see if it'd be worth making a game with it ;)
It's not worth the trouble unless you're also going to use the tools like Hammer with it. From what I saw of it, it's pretty much limited to working with in a specific set of tools, it's not like SDL or SFML where you can use a ton of other things with it.
I know that it's more specific than them, but I want to play around with making a shooter, so I think it's targeted at the right kind of thing. I'm working with SFML as well, it's just I am in constant awe of Valve physics, and I doubt I could ever manage as well writing the physics myself :P

But to be honest I'll probably leave it as I did before because of all the annoying compiler errors and even missing functions in places :/

Thanks for your time and advice :)
You could try UDK: http://www.udk.com/
It's free for non-commercial use.
