Disch: Totally agree, Minecraft is fun until you've gotten all the different kinds of objects and then you're expected to just 'come up with stuff', so really not that fun.
Ultifinitus: Oh yeah I'd program Minecraft, despite enjoying it I'd also enjoy the ~$200'000 / day revenue Notch experienced at one point.
(By the way, making something similar is still open, a C++ minecraft would be faster and far more expansible, not to mention it turns out Notch is a crummy programmer).

The "need" to play minecraft comes and goes with me(like the wind?), but it can get boring.

I feel a "discussion" about the disadvantages of languages coming up.
I don't see how using C++ instead of Java would make it more expansible. Expandability has less to do with language and more to do with just the design of the software itself.

It begins... and hopefully ends.

As for the game, it's obviously fun and addicting, otherwise it wouldn't be so popular, he's not a crummy programmer in my opinion, though I haven't based that off of anything other than pure conversation, so I could very well be wrong.
As for this game in c++, well it wouldn't reach such a vast market, I understand you can play in a browser, which really brings a lot more people, (I would think) because they don't have to install anything (not that a properly created JS script couldn't ruin your compie)
