"Oh Coffee, blessed be thy beans. Bringer of life, presenter of wit, thy smooth nutty flavor is that which I am servant. Brewed be thy medium at which you reach out to all who would receive you. Blessed Coffee, we pray you shall grace us with thy caffeinated grace, bringing us up from the bowls of waking slumber, away from the evil of morning grogginess, and to the Enlightenment of a energized day. In the name of the Bean, the brewer, and the Holy Mug. Amen."
I made this as a post on facebook as a slight satire to all the Christian Extremest post's that are being made by people I for some unknown reason am still friends with. Basically today is the national Day of Silence for Gay Rights. They were all quoting Lavitical Scripture and prayers that supported them. So I posted this. All my Christian friends who aren't unreasonable lol'd and such, my atheist/agnostic friends found it hillarious, and the extremest group of my friends all raged, some of them even dropped me. Which is for the best. Anyways, I'm posting this here because I think at least some of you will appreciate the humor. Considering a lot of us are that special breed of chimp that has the uncanny ability to transform Caffeine (usually in the form of coffee) into Code.
I never drink coffee/energy drinks when i program, I prefer to have a clear mind so I stick to water, lots of programmers do seem to have a caffeine addiction though.
I used to be totally hyped up on caffeine. Like constantly on a caffeine high. I drank 2 liters of Mountain dew a day or more.
It made me a nervous wreck. Once I put two and two together and realized caffeine was the cause (which took surprisingly long) I quit it cold turkey.
I've been a whole new person since. A lot more clear headed, stable, less of a wreck, more fun to be around, etc, etc.
I don't even miss caffeine at all. Good riddance to bad garbage. I encourage more programmers people to do the same, as most programmers people seem to rely far too heavily on caffeine.
2 liters of Mountain Dew?! Wholly shit, I'd be more inclined to blame the overall excessiveness and not just caffeine...excessive amounts of sugar will fuck you up too (imo, worse than caffeine).
I drink *one* cup of black coffee a day, and it does wonders for my concentration, mood, disposition etc...When you drink it reasonably, coffee is actually good for you:

In Canada, there is no caffeine in Mountain Dew ;)
Caffeine is a very popular drug, so popular few people consider it a drug. In fact it is the only drug I know that it is socially acceptable to be physically addicted too. And caffeine is fun to talk about because you can say what ever you want about it and with little effort find a citation to support that belief.
A few years ago I was paging through a National Geographic about caffeine (same stuff people always say about caffeine) but one researcher said something that was quoted in the article that I always remember; "caffeine is used by so many people in so many cultures that large scale long term study of this drug is impossible".
You can't find enough people who don't use caffeine to have an adequate control group.--think about it everyone knows someone who doesn't use caffeine, but when you talk to them you find that they almost always have used a little caffeine; e.g I was at a wedding and there was nothing else to drink, the medication I was using contained a small amount to caffeine, I did not realize until after I read the package that it contained caffeine...
I use to give to my children coffee when they were toddlers--they are all grown now and none of them will touch the drink. I really don't know what I did wrong I would never make it as a drug dealer.
@chwsks
I never thought about Caffeine like that before. Wow, that's so true.. I can't think of a single person that has never had caffeine in their entire life. Come to think of it, I can't think of a single person that hasn't had at least SOME caffeine this week!
I've never even considered drinking tea or coffee but I do like my Coke :)
I don't have alot of it though; I tend to have about half a litre or so in a day but I don't drink it every day.
LOL, so from this, 3 of my friends and I have decided to start a running joke on facebook. And by running joke i mean extended satirical metaphor of religious strife. One friend is taking tea (In this case Judaism) coffee is Christianity, Soda/pop/cola (What ever you call it by you) is one sect of islam, while Energy Drinks are the other. We've actually got a bit of a story to follow, ultimately ending with all 3(4) Caffeine followers wiping each other out.
...I won't post any of the conversations here, for one most of you wouldn't care to see it and it's irrelevant to this forum, and the other reason is I'm more then sure some one would get offended.
I don't like coffee :/
I know, I'm only 16, but still...lots of my friends do!
What do you guys like so much about it?
I am starting to like beer though :D
This is completely random but I have to say that I'm one of those people that have to make their own coffee. I hate buying coffee because of the preparation. I'm one of those people when they drink coffee, half of it has to be milk and the other half the brew. Just curious, do you guys prepare/like your coffee in a similar fashion?
@xander333
Coffee and other caffeinated beverages (for me Coke) give you the juice to get things done. For me personally, I tend to get very little sleep so Coke helps me stay awake, especially in classes where the monotone voice, pointless lecture, and a warm environment are ideal for falling asleep.
