Akira: Live action movie

The next live action bastardization of one of the best movies I've ever watched:
Starring Robert Patterson, set in New York, and despite the original being gory and violent to the point of being vomit-inducing, is rated PG-13. Introducing, the worst thing humanity has even thought of doing lately:
Akira: the live action movie.

Akira is arguably the father of modern anime, and my favorite animated movie of all time. I grew up on anime in general and this movie is what transitioned me from crappy english dubs on toonami of Anime that were intended for adolesants to the hardcore uncensored subbed anime coming straight from japan.

But this... this is grounds for storming Hollywood toting a shotgun. Alright I dont mean that. But still. I laughed at all the last waive of Anime/Game made Hollywood movies came out. I am legitimately pissed off at this.

I'm not a fan of anime, but I must say that I loved Akira.

OK, so Hollywood makes another shitty remake of a great movie. Nothing new, they're making a lot of remakes and 99% of them is not worth watching. Why is this pissing you off? Do you think this remake will somehow destroy the original for you? I personally don't have any problem enjoying many movies that have been shitty-remaked. Yes I know that it is pathetic that creators of high-budget movies are completely uncreative, but what can you do about it? There are more important things in life to care about.
I feel your pain.

+1 @ this.

Bad movies are everywhere. Nothing new here.

I find it more funny than anything else. I mean come on, Justin Timberlake? The guy from Twilight? This is going to be hilariously bad. Like MST3000 bad.... Eragon bad.

If it actually makes it through production I might watch it for a cheap laugh.
The movie was not quite as good as the manga anyways, and now they are making a crappy hollywood version out of it. Someone's gotta tell the executives over there that movies don't have to be directed at dumb people to be sellable.
I don't like anime in general, but I loved the manga and the movie (though the manga is very superior). But I agree with Abramus and Disch; it's not like you have to watch it.

Hollywood tends to make crappy choices a lot. Good movies are few and far between nowadays. Even good action films are increasingly rare.
I guess it was along the lines of "it's ruining my childhood." Plus I posted that late at night and was in a ranting mood I guess.
it's not like you have to watch it.

But don't you want to?! I trust that if you hear Kaneda pronounced as Canada, or even Kahnayduh, one would be hard pressed not to burst out in a delicious and righteous laugh.

As a side note Akira on Blu-Ray = Exquisite. Though the best version comes with an in-depth book that has interviews with Katsuhiro Otomo (Writer of the original manga and director of the anime) a few of the animators and the score composer. While it was a tangent and a bit off topic I figured it would make for a nice note to the news of Akira Live Action.
