Sci-Fi Game, Small preview.

Hey guys, so myself and a small team the past couple of weeks have decided to work on a small sci fi game. I figured some of use might like to see some of the content that is being created for the game so far. As for game-play, we're not going to be revealing any of that any time soon. So hopefully a small video of some of the content that will be in game will grab some peoples attention.

Planets, stars, gasgiants and the background are all procedurally created and only in their first pass. As for the ship models they are all being handled by a single artist.

Hopefully we can get some good feedback on what people think of the art, concept navigation menu and procedural content so far.

Enjoy the video :)

Looks pretty cool to me.

What did you use to make the models/texture them?
Our Artist : "All models and UV's where created using maya 2010, all the textures where created using Photoshop CS4. For the "Hero" Fighter and the Boss I'm thinking of using bodypaint 3d or deep paint 3D for projection paint just so that I can hand paint the textures with more control."
That is a lot of investment (e.g commercial license cost of those specialized software) for a small sci fi game. I presume you all want it to be big rather than small. Big as in the graphics alone investment is "$$$ heavy".

But I guess most games making companies invest in those commercial software anyway to get real fast results especially in terms of visual attractive-ness :P
Hey Mythios, glad to see you are still at it. This looks great so far.

It's not that heavy. Typically licensing an engine is the highest price point outside of general resource cost. The Maya package runs under $1,000.
Mythios, I haven't seen you post here in a long time. That video is impressive!
Haha yeah I've not been around here for a while. Been busy in a way. Glad use like the looks of it so far :)

For developers that are so used to using Open Source development tools to achieve what we want, 1K is a high cost (subject to each individual opinion of cuz :)

And I believe licensing has many forms, is it for per PC, can install multiple copies on multiple PC but still pay 1K ? :P

Ok now back to topic, it is indeed an impressive visual effect. Congrats to the developer/artist. You are on your way but honestly speaking, there are quite a lot of sci-fi theme games out there in the market you must think of something novel and unique in your game play/design to be different so as to "break" through among all of them :)
Ah yes, that would be the reason we're not showing a lot of the gameplay then I guess, can't have you stealing it now can we :)
