Forum changes

OK, the first thing that happened to me here is described here:
http://home.comcast.net/~mlyn7576/temp/cpp-forum-changes/

I know I missed it on the previous page, but why again do I have a "Report" button on my own post? (I just think it weird.)

LOVE

The new "pages:" banner and buttons at the top and bottom of the page

DISLIKE

Waiting for the login redirection. It used to just go, "Yay! You're in!". Now it shows you a splash page while you are being redirected...

And, what happened to the posts with the nice, white background? Now it is some gray color. (I like the color, BTW, just not all over the back of the post.)

PROBLEM

Pressing "Preview" used to just refresh the tab with a preview.
Now I get a new tab for the preview (meaning I now have multiple preview tabs open).

HATE

Yellow.

I don't like yellow in the background.
I don't like yellow haze around the "Preview", "Submit", "Cancel", "Reply", etc buttons.

Hope this helps.

On an unrelated note: Why does twicker only have a post count of 34 if he is the admin?

He doesn't post constantly on here like everyone else, heh.
Please rethink the change that for every Preview a new TAB appear!

...or maybe give an option to switch it off?

Thanx.
The only big thing I dislike about the changes is that things seem to be taking longer to load.
Have others with slow connections noticed this?

Now I'm not sure, it seems to be intermittent.
@Disch: I can think of one instance where someone wanted to report their own thread.

On your other comments, I mostly agree, except that I could care less about the new tab thing. I actually kind of like it.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the changes, but I get logged out randomly without clicking the log out button.

I don't particularly care either way on this.

I'm getting this too...

Same here.

I liked being able to see user's last five posts. I wish it were even more than five though.

Edit: wtf? I just got this error when trying to send a post:
Error: permission denied (po-Nw-20)

I think I got kicked off. I had to login again.

Just tried to reply to a post and got a dialog box:
Error: Permission denied (po-Nw-20)

Edit: Had to log out and back in to be able to post.

Thanks for all the feedback! It's been very helpful in the bug hunt...
I think I have already fixed most of them. So, if any of the problems persist, please report them -- especially those related to the logging out and "Permission denied" issue, which is the most difficult to replicate from here.
I get logged out every time I quit the browser, otherwise it works fine
Praise God, the tab nightmare is over!
My humble requests:

I've had an issue with threads being marked with new repeatedly, even when there are no new posts. This existed before the updates and after, if that helps. I would love to see that fixed.

It's already been mentioned but showing more than the last five posts for a user would be great. How about having some kind of search or query for all of a user's posts, too?

Also, there are frequent new users starting threads and posting code (without code tags). It might be worth-while to make the format icons a little more explicit (bigger, with text, etc.). This might help the problem but you'd have to strike a compromise to keep them from becoming too intrusive for regular users.

Clicked My topics link and got:
ACCESS DENIED
This feature is only available for registered users
You are logged in as user "Grey Wolf". That user is not authorized to access this feature.

Tried posting the above here and got:
Error: Permission denied (po-Nw-20)

Log out and back in...
I don't know if it's wanted or a bug but posts sticky threads have the dark background.

The list on the left for reference functions is no longer sorted, I mean:
http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/algorithm/lexicographical_compare/
Lexicographical comparison is used for example to sort words alphabetically in dictionaries (or in the list of algorithms right here on the left)
The bolded part is no longer true :^)

Also, can we have a brief list/description of the major changes?

Hey, I took a screenshot of the po-nw-20 error, I also noticed that right before it happened, the tracking options were still loading on the bottom. Directly after that was denied I checked my usercp and it denied access, told me to log out and log in. Also in my preview, it said I had a single post, which leads me to believe a new ultifinitus user was created for the preview.

here are the screenshots:

Thanks for those details, ultifinitus.
I think we caught it... It had to do with session cookies and their expiration.

I assume you don't check the "remember me" box.

Does this happen after you visit a thread or after you click on the "new!" icon?

I think 5 posts generally gives enough information to know what kind of user one is. My only concern of extending this beyond 5 is privacy. I can think of a few cases where this would be useful, while I can think of many cases where this could be abused for personal or questionable motivations.

For the new posts icon, I don't see the problem right now. I'll get more information if I see it again. I typically come to the site often (sometimes minutes apart, sometimes hours, sometimes days) and the first thing I do is go to My topics. Recently, the last couple threads have shown the new posts icon but they were already viewed or even my own posts.
So, here's a question... what am I to do if a newcomer makes a thread in the wrong section? I can't report the thread asking for it to be moved; I can only delete the post in question.

Instead of yellow in the participated post banner how about something like a nice blue?
http://home.comcast.net/~mlyn7576/temp/cpp-forum-changes/cplusplus-blue.png

I can't stand yellow.
