I would make a bad forum moderator

It's true.

I'm just saying...
haha, I wouldn't unless I was moderating /b/, in which case all the white nights would get the b&h4mm3r and all the trolls would get ignored.

Obligatory.

Photoshopped.

No, seriously. For some of us, it's hard to resist the temptation to use the power that being a forum moderator gives. I know I used to have a problem with using power, but eventually one learns when to use it and how to use it. I think you'd make a better forum moderator than some others here would, Disch, although I admit I don't know you too well. ;)

You're like the big daddy of this forum, if anyone is entitled to power it's probably you.
I would make a bad moderator if banning of members were the only moderation option.

http://www.cplusplus.com/forum/lounge/34235/#msg185233 :
I was thinking on a simpler solution that would let "trusted" users (those currently having "Report abuse" buttons) be able to delete posts of recent users directly (in a reversible way), and putting its author into some sort of quarantine
I could live with that, I think. I wonder if it makes sense to prevent moderators from deleting posts in topics they participate in? (Again, taken from /. moderation rules.)

Well this thread came about because I was countering spoonlicker/helpme's trolling with more trolling (trolling the troll, in a sense).

Funny and entertaining, yes. But not behavior you'd want from someone with authority.

I guess as I was doing it, I felt conflicted. I was really enjoying it and having fun, but at the same time I was probably deteriorating the quality of the forums in the process. So it was like this bittersweet feeling of joy mashed with guilt -- and I guess that made me want to make this post =x

Flattering, but there are others I would give way more weight to than myself. I may post a lot but I don't keep a level head all the time, when others do.
I'd say that's prolly helios, Duoas, and Grey wolf that would be considered the big ones, Disch i'd say you are well. <edit> also alby is a biggy here </edit>

and also jsmith, Bazzy, chrisname <edit>, roshi, firedraco</edit> (and others I'm probably forgetting). There's a pretty sizable group of regulars who make significant contributions.

but helios doesn't seem to have been around lately ;_; It looks like his most recent post was back in November.

Sniff.

He was one smart-ass lad, 'shame he left just like that (still hope he's gonna return). :/
also I'd count my self, but only because I've been here a long time (this is my second account, old one I can't remember any of the credentials) I don't contribute enough to be considered significant

also you guys do realize helios posted his email on his profile...right?

Number of posts means nothing. It's the quality of the posts that count. I have been a member of this forum for 2.5 years. Only jsmith, duaos, firedraco, and 1 or 2 others have been here longer and not by much. I was here when cplusplus.com was perfect, here when duoas announced his engagement and here when chrisname spoke his first words lol. ah the good old days. It's unfortunate I have not had the time I used to... but that's the price you pay for making big bucks :)
I think helios has gone to university, he mentioned something about going to Buenos Aires. But then, universities seem to have really good Internet connections...

Lol; I've looked back at some of my old posts, and some of the things I said were really embarassing in a way. I always wonder "how could I have been so stupid?" and then think, "I'm much smarter now". But I know that if I look back on the posts I make now, it about a year I'll be thinking "How could I have been so stupid? At least I'm much smarter now."

Yeah I find it odd that he hasn't stopped by. That's unlike him. He lived on this forum. Has anyone emailed him?
I'd kick all of you... no, not really. As far as looking back on posts and saying "How could I have been so stupid?" chrisname, I have a bad memory at times, so that happens within minutes for me. Like I asked someone the other day who the OP was, but I read it as op. or operator or something... Doh!

lol yeah I think we all go through the same thing at some point.
To summarize: it is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

However, it is summer break now.
