eaten by Greg Focker in Meet the Parents

IIRC, his name was Gaylord Focker.

That was his real name but he had everyone call him Greg.

I think I must be on to something here. No one responds to any of the merits of my posts, only to trivial stuff like Greg vs. Gaylord, which is no big deal.

Anywho, has anyone ever heard of a person named Gaylord?
There's a city in Northern Michigan called Gaylord, but I don't think that counts.
Maybe it refers to that King Frederick II of Prussia who was known to have played the flute.

I think it was an ordinary (but not especially common) name back when the word gay just meant jolly.

To reply to your previous post, I didn't notice any of those references. I think references should tie in well with the plot of the movie, though. Like the last scene in Blade Runner (director's cut, which, suprisingly, is the superior version) when the elevator door closes is a reference to the last scene of the first "film noir", The Maltese Falcon, but fits Blade Runner perfectly.

i agree also felipe, but I also think that the dinner scene in tron legacy ties in perfectly with 2001 too.

Also just watched the original tron on youtube. And I noticed a few strange things.
After having been pointed out to by other clips on youtube, i saw a couple of easter eggs, 1 a pac man on a digital board being used by sark, and a mickey mouse in the background as the flying ship passes over. I thought that the easter eggs clips must have been hacks, or that the full movie version i just watched was a hack... except for something else that was strange.

During one point in the movie, (b4 it goes digital) MCP asks dillinger for a chinese language file. (this is when MCP is threatening dillinger and contemplating hacking the kremlin and the pentagon.)

During the credits there is an entire portion written in chinese characters. Could this have been a deliberate tie in? Or just not wanting to bother translating chinese names into latin alphabet?

Anyways when seeing tron legacy at the theaters I wanted to stay and watch the credits, like I used to when very very young b4 that sort of thing started going out of fashin. But like usual, i chickened out and exited b4 the end of the credits to not look like a fool. I wonder should I go watch tron again and this time stay for an easter egg in the final credits?

I think you're looking for significance or meaning in a movie that has absolutely none.

It's quite humorous actually, keeps me entertained and coming back and lurking this thread long after I put in my 2 cents.

Your 2 cents had more holes than swiss cheese.

At least I'm not trying to shoehorn significance between Asparagus and Meet the Parents

Its been so so long since I had a flame war. Aren't I entitled to one every now and then? Besides look at his other post, its a shoe in I would win.

LMBO. This is getting entertaining now. Has anyone seen it in 3d? I didn't.

I agree!

Oh by the way Return 0, I did see it again with my fiance. And while you were right that I did make some mistakes while watching it the first time, I still don't like it, sorry. I still appreciate your input though.

Alright, while it might seem to some of you that I'm making a big difference about a trivial a thing as asparagus, c'mon folks, if its good enough for the commentators to discuss on the commentary track of the Meet the Parents dvd (during the entire dinner scene it just chanced that Ben Stiller was ever only shown eating asparagus, don't remember what they said about it, I think it was that Stiller could eat asparagus retake after retake without getting sick hence it just came out that way) its good enough for a single comment on a forum. Its not like I wrote a doctoral dissertation on the subject, I just pointed it out as odd and called question to whether it was a mere coincidence or not. Cut me some slack.

*cuts the slack for wtf*

It's alright, wtf, it's all in good fun. It *is* just a forum afterall, it's not like any of the discussion here actually matters.
Jan 27, 2011 at 9:57pm
Its all good. No I guess it doesn't matter really, but its nice to know this forum is here. I could start a blog and no one would read it.

I'm planning on seeing Tron again this weekend... I'll look out for the asparagus this time.
Jan 27, 2011 at 10:44pm
Great... I wasn't going to see it, now I want to. If I wasn't stuck on an island, I'd just go and watch it... Guess I'll have to wait until I can get to the city again...
