Death Note

Oh... My... Noodliness... I just started to watch Death Note, and I have to say that this is the BEST ANIME I'VE EVER SEEN! And I've seen a decent number. I am absolutely hooked. Right now I'm on ep. 3, watching it on Hulu. Did/does anyone else here like(d) it?

As far as Japanese anime goes, this is about... 50 out of my top 100. The idea it provides with the notebook is really awesome. But some of the characters are rather goofy and you can't help but wonder why certain things happen. It also becomes repetitive... I myself dropped the anime as I lost definite interest but it's been popular through out America, probably more so than Japan.

Well,,,
I sort of don't.

One guy says "I'm smart". The other one - "I'm smarter and I act weird too"
And that is pretty much what this anime is all about.

Sure there is the deepish moral choice part, but the anime itself is way too direct and too opinionated about it.

The whole anime is based on random events and conclusions put together so that it looks like the characters are very smart. It reminds me of CSI a lot. A stereotypical depiction of intelligence. It looks good as long as you don't think about it..
And the 2nd season is even worse (but I won't spoil it for you now).

Though of course on the whole all anime has that problem of having few good aspects and being cheesy about everything else. I wonder, maybe I should start reading mangas..

Anyway, have fun.
mangas

Anyway, IMO, generally manga are better then anime...actually, I'm rephrasing that. The original format is generally the best...mainly due to:

I can't read manga... It's kind of hard to explain why, but I'll try. They seem disconnected, awkward, and unrealistic when I read them. I guess regular books just give you more room as far as imagination goes, if that makes any sense.
