Rant: I hate Apple (some foul language within)

Pages: 12
It is NOT the SDK, it is the software that is written with it. It is also not that I am unhappy with the quality or ethicise, it is that I don't trust the software/developers in terms of quality or ethicise.

So does that mean you *trust* the software/developers for iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia Symbian OS, Samsung Bada OS etc in terms of quality or ethicise ?

At the end of the day, all are developers developing for different SDK/platform. So you feel Android developers are not up to scratch in comparison to developers from iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung etc ?

Hmmm..... food for my thought today...

Please stop trying to put words into my mouth. The point was made in relation to Apple testing and approving software before it is put in the app store and Android not. Just because I have not mentioned any other company don't draw the conclusion that I trust the developers for their platform any more or less that others.

The fact that Apple want to protect their brand image by making sure that the software on the app store meets some standards means that I am more inclined to trust the software that it there. This is not true for the android app store (or any other market place that is not regulated). Basically if they have an open sdk and an open market my trust is closed. I have bought software for my Blackberry but only from companies that have a proven tract record, never from Joe blogs out of his bedroom.

In my case trust is not given freely it is earned. My trust in Google got a big knock when their street cars gathered all that private data from Wi-Fi hot spots. Googles claim that they did not know the data was being gathered does not wash with me. So at the moment I would not trust Google themselves, in terms of ethicise, to have their OS on my phone.

Antivirus software. Or was it virus software?

This. Every computer I've ever used has been horribly crippled by AV software. In my book it's worse than any virus.

I've been running without AV software for 12 years, I've had zero problems. On the other hand I'm constantly wrestling with the AV software that we have to use at work.

There is some AV software that I would not touch with someone elses 10 foot pole but I do use AV software that does not criple my systems. (I trust no one...not even myself ;0) )
I use AV software when working on Windows. Microsoft Security Essentials (which is free) is excellent - very easy to use, relatively light-weight (esp. compared to mcafee uselessness centre), high detection rates.
