I understand, I was expecting as much and it didn't come off as mean or anything. To be fair, I used to think the same thing of that kind of music (not that long ago). I got into the whole slam death metal thing recently and now I just love guttural vocals like those. I think another name for those types of vocals would be "water-draining" vocals because, to me, it sounds like when you pour water into a sink. Thanks for at least listening to it, though.
I couldn't understand a single word of those vocals...and I don't think even their biggest fans will be able to either without looking up the lyrics. I like some death metalish vocals like Randy Blythe from Lamb Of God but you can still easily understand him, so yeah...don't really get the point in singing when it can't be understood.
A lot of people despise all metal though and they probably don't understand what I see in it either, so to each their own.
Sepultura is weird. They started out as a death metal band. Before that got popular they had become a nu metal band, and when that got popular they became a groove band. It's like they're trying to follow trends before the trends have actually happened.
Well following a trend before it's happened would make them trendsetters =)
You're right though they do have a weird mix of styles in their back-catalogue, since Max Cavalera left I haven't liked anything they've done, and even before that it was fairly hit and miss, but when they hit they hit big.

I see a few very good metal bands on the list. I like all kinds of music, from classical to a little bit of rap but I have to say that Metal is my favorite. I like a lot of the newer style metal though. The metal that I dislike the most is probably thrash metal, it sounds too much like punk to me. Gojira is by far my favorite metal band ever, who are actually a french metal band. Here are some of their songs and some of my other favorite bands:
