Talking about black/death metal songs I do draw a line. The only band I know is Slayer, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond which I feel is pretty much macabre and *evil*.
But somehow I do like Judas Priest and Helloween alot ! :P
Helloween, black/death metal?
By the way, Rhapsody's cover of their song Guardians is also one of my favorite songs. The original version, not so much.
It has been a long time since I keep track. So you do not classify Helloween as black/death metal? Well then ok. Does Slayer, Mercyful Fate and King Diamond fall under that category?
I think black/death/thrash/speed and watever names you want to give is carrying metal music to the extreme and it is not to my liking. I know they do have their fair share of loyal fans and I respect that.
You know sometimes late at night, I wake up in cold sweat as I vividly remember Slayer chanting "On and on south of heaven... on and on south of heaven....." I believe they are chanting and not singing. Mercyful Fate and King Diamond would be different. They at least "sing" with melodic catchy riff although their lyrics is pretty much the same as Slayer.
So you do not classify Helloween as black/death metal?
Maybe they've changed their style, but as far as I know, no, they don't do that kind of metal.
I think black/death/thrash/speed and watever names you want to give is carrying metal music to the extreme and it is not to my liking.
So, no Dragonforce? I don't think I've ever heard of another band in the "extreme power metal" genre (read: "play it fast in recording and then speed it up in production until it all becomes barely more intelligible than white noise").
@tition
Their videos are like that for two reasons. Firstly, because they are poor. They aren't popular except within the black metal scene, which is in itself not very popular (people seem to think that black/death metal vocals take no skill, when in reality it's very difficult to do them right). The other reason is because they're taking the piss. Watch the video for Call of the Wintermoon, it becomes fairly clear they're not being serious. They're serious about their music - they are decent musicians - but I'm fairly sure their videos are meant to be funny.
I disagree; if your attendants aren't complaining about noise-induced hearing loss and that the words "rape the limbless cadaver" keep floating across their mind by the next morning, you're doing it wrong.
haha alright next time I throw a party I will keep that in mind. Although taking shots whenever a rapper says their name in a song is a pretty fun drinking game.
