Does anyone know about this... book?

Years ago I remember reading somewhere that some early CS researcher or information theorist, or someone directly involved in the development of ARPANET/the Internet wrote a book with the peculiarity that it was spiral-bound and without covers, so it was intended to be read in any order, but I can't recall where I read it, who wrote it, or how I arrived at that bit of information.

Has anyone heard of anything like this?
