what do i need to learn in order to do project on gesture recognizing?

i am new to openCV,and i do know it is a great library on things related

to image processing, so what exactly do i need to know if i want to let the

programme figure out my intentions based on my gesture(from the web-cam).


Is that something like machine learning ? if so, can you guys recommend any

quick guides ？
