Carpal Tunnel

Good evening all. I've been playing guitar for about 7 years now, and programming on and off for about a year. Lately, my right wrist has felt like it's gonna burst into flames and detach from my arm. I think it may be carpal tunnel. Since this IS a programming forum, I figure I'm not the only person here with this problem. If anybody here has any information that would be useful(wrist exercises, tips, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated. Captain Morgan only helps for so long. lol
Thanks in advance everybody.
Go see a doctor maybe...>_>

Try holding your hand like this:
==ARM==||
       HA
       ND

So your wrist is bent at a 90 degree angle.

If your hand kind of feels numb, you might have carpal tunnel (but don't trust me on this).

That's part of the problem. I'm 19, living 400 miles away from any family, and I work at GameStop. I don't have medical let alone enough extra money to go to a doctor. I tried holding my hand like you said; it didn't make my hand numb, but it's not hurting as bad today. Thanks for the advice.
You still need some way to go visit a doctor. Many communities have clinics where the uninsured can go and get some help for cheap and payment plans.

Make sure you are using your hands and arms all day, instead of just your fingers on keyboards and guitars. Do pushups, wrist rolls, etc. Lift heavy objects (but not too heavy). The trick is to keep your wrist in motion, not static.

Good luck!
Try holding your hand like this:

Isn't that what CAUSES carpal tunnel?
Isn't that what CAUSES carpal tunnel?

I don't know what causes it really, but I think that if you put your hand in that position it decreases the amount of space for the nerve, so if it has started to swell because of carpal tunnel, it might compress it and cause the numbness.

Any repetative motion that puts pressure through the carpal tunnel without moving the wrist exacerbates the problem.
You need to take a long break from guitar and programming. I recently had the same problem being overworked at my job and personal projects. After I took a nice long vacation free of computing I recovered. Stay away from video games, computers, and your guitar for at least a week and see if it improves... I know that's difficult :)

Impossible!
Yes I know... over the weekend I went on a spending spree and bought an xbox 360 elite bundle with halo ODST & Forza and picked up Bad Company 2, Oblivion, Modern Warfare 2, and Borderlands. Also just preordered Halo Reach :)
Halo 1 was the only good one in my opinion...and don't get me started on the online community...
Yes I agree... Halo 1 was the beginning and end of the series in my opinion. The moment the damn covenant elite started speaking perfect english I stopped playing. Halo ODST just happened to come with the bundle... otherwise I would not have purchased it on its own. Halo reach however, looks like it just might have that Halo 1 feel.
Just another side note... Bad Company 2 is the best FPS I've ever played :) I highly recommend it.
@Return 0: I'll try, but guitar, computer, and video games are like, 80% of my day. I feel the withdrawls already. haha
