Disk recovery software!

Hello, I need a disk recovery program. Anyone knows a good one?
I really need it because... let's say... curiosity killed the cat.
Thanks for help.
Can you be more specific?
I need to recover 3 lost partitions. 2 of them were created for testing purposes but third one if full of data (my projects, pictures, music...). The partitions are OK but Windows can't see them because I incidentally deleted two extended boot records instead of one.
Try creating a Linux LiveCD. Linux should be able to mount the partitions so you can get the data on to your main one, and then you could use gParted or fdisk to remove and recreate them. You could try that.

I would recommend Slitaz for this; it's small (<= 30 MiB), easy to use, works completely in RAM and I'm fairly sure it comes with gParted, which is very easy to use. If not, it definitely comes with GNU fdisk (Edit: and probably cfdisk as well, which is an easier to use ncurses frontend to GNU fdisk).

"SliTaz is a free operating system, working completely in RAM and booting from removable media such as a cdrom or USB key. SliTaz is distributed as a LiveCD, and weighs less than 30MB. The system is quick and responsive, clean and robust. SliTaz is simple and intuitive, providing a lightweight, elegant desktop, detailed documentation and easy to use configuration tools"

I'm fairly sure that even Ubuntu 8.10 9.10 will let you boot from disc and that you could then access existing partitions. As far as actually fixing the boot records, well, I can't really help you there--it's a little over my head. ;)

Yes, but Ubuntu 9.10 (I'm assuming you meant 9.10 because 8.10 isn't supported any more) is downloadable as a 690 MiB .iso whereas Slitaz comes in a 30 MiB disk and is still fully functional as a fast rescue CD.

Null,

Have a look at the current release of Ultimate Boot CD, you may find tools to help you on that.

Thank you guys but I found this:

TestDisk works so well that it recovered 6 partitions, even a linux partition which was deleted 5 months ago!
Damn, why didn't I know about this three times when I lost a lot of files due to incorrect configurations with various operating systems?
