I've seen a lot of dumb threads in the articles forum that really aren't articles. I'm not talking about articles that just aren't quite on point but things that aren't even close to articles that really don't belong there. In addition, not all articles in the articles forum are quite as authoritative or accurate on their topics as they should be. I have also noticed that the articles section of this website that I can easily go and start my own draft and submit it.
I really don't see the point of an articles section if none of the material is guaranteed to be article-quality stuff. It's not like it's all bad, but there really ought to be some agreement as to what does an article make. I personally would feel like I was going into some big undertaking if I was to post an article, but based on some of the ridiculous stuff I've seen in there, obviously not everybody agrees with me. (Luckily, our trusty admin deletes all the flotsam that finds its way into there after a day or two.)
There are also the articles that are written for the right purpose (ie, not stupid help requests) but aren't quite accurate or have glaring errors in them. Often times this stuff gets raised in the discussion thereof, but maybe (and I'm not a personal proponent of this idea, but I just think it should be raised for discussion) that should have to be checked over first.
So what do you think? Should there be some way to audit an article prior to its thread appearing publicly? Should anybody be allowed to post a new topic in the articles forum, like we can in any other part of this website? Or should we let it be, and let our admin make sure that only good stuff finds its way in there? I'm really just looking for opinions because I know this cheeses me off big time. (For example, imagine if I posted this in the articles forum.)
