Pong Game Specification

Okay, I know there is a digital Pong specification. I just need to know what size the block paddles and ball are so I can hard code them into my game. Does anyone know anything about where to find the standard for the sizes?
What!?

There is no "specification" for trademarked other than the original Atari game. When you design your game, just make it work for you. There are literally hundreds of variations you can play with.

(In the original, the paddle changed size during gameplay. The paddle is as wide as the "ball", and about 6 to 10 times as long. If it matters enough, you can download Atari 2600 emulators, like z26 http://www.whimsey.com/z26/z26.html . You can also see some screenshots from the Wikipedia site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong )

Also, if you intend to do anything interesting with it, make sure you name it something else, or Atari's laywers will get you.

Ever hear of Plasma Pong?

Apparently the game was too awesome for Steve Taylor to get away with it.

I fail to see why Atari truly cares about it...

Either way, I did intend on putting a lot into it and it's called cqPong. I was also planning on adding it to my resume. Although my plans on making cqBreakout and cqTetris were also not outside of copyrights.

By specification, I was wondering about classic pong. I could make my own variation but I want to stay to something that has a known good balance. And then from there, I can make larger variations of gameplay.

Sigh.

If you care a lot for it, then heed my admonition and don't name it "pong". I've already given you an example (and a LINK) indicating just how much Atari cares about it.

Here's some more.

People tend to be a little anal about their flagship product.
WOW! thanks Duos, i didn't know that a very awesome pong game exist! weeeeeee...
Yeah, my poor old Athlon 2100 can't handle it. I have to play it on my wife's PC. (The kids love it too. My son plays better than I do. I think he racked up a score of 38 or so last time.)

[edit] It was 48!

Are computer components expensive in America? I thought they were cheaper than here, you have that Newegg site that everyone seems to love some much...

I ask that because the build I'm planning (by this time next year, if I can find a job when I turn 16) is ~ £640; and that's kind of... ridiculous:

2 GiB of DDR3 memory at 1333MHz, a Phenom II 965 at 3.4 GHz, a 9800 GT, a 650 W Antec PSU, a 300 GiB WD hard disk, an MSI motherboard (I've heard that their boards are good... I don't really know, though) and the most awesome, most ridiculous RaidMax case I could find: http://www.digicom24.de/images/2009-01-09_18.29.19_Raidmax%20Tornado%20GS.jpg
And to top it off, this beast is my heatsink: http://www.quietpc.com/files/images/products/asus-silentknightal-large.jpg

One company I tend to seek is Asus; I've heard from many reliable sources that their hardware has superior quality to most companies... I hope that's true, because it's damned expensive. I wanted an Asus motherboard, but it was like £200; so I went for the MSI... the graphics card is an Asus though.

I guess if you hunt for long enough, you'll find good deals... Also, in this country at least, hardware prices went WAY down after Windows 7 was released. One of the few things I can thank Microsoft for. If you can afford to buy a new system, now is certainly the latest you should start to look for parts. But hell, for all I know you've got lots of experience with this and I probably sound like a 7 year old on Christmas...
Yeah. Go cheap on the motherboard. That makes sense. After all, it's not like it performs any vital functions or anything.
@Duoas
yeah my old P4 1.7Ghz can't handle it also. i have to play it on my father's laptop, what a great programmer (Steve Taylor).. did he do all the fluid calculations?

LOL, i stop reading my programming book because of this game, my mom is really angry cause im playing for hours.. now i'm back.
I built a big water-cooled machine at home years ago. At the time I didn't realize how much I'd rather just have a small profile air-cooled one. ;)
@helios,
I'm not going cheap on the motherboard, particularly. I have heard MSI are good, so I bought a reasonably priced board. If it turns out that board isn't what I'm looking for, I'll return it and buy an Asus or Gigabyte board.

@moorecm,
Hahaha... I was going to go for watercooling (just to play around with); but my friend recommended to stick with air cooling unless I was willing to pay over £100 for it. Apparently air cooling is better unless you get particularly good water cooling...
If you want to know prices convert pounds to dollars please, anywho I guess a pound = 2 dollars:

2 gigabytes of ram 40$ //although this was for my laptop

On newegg I just found 4 gigabytes of DD3 ram for 100$

Past that I havn't bought hardware or even entered a computer store in like 2 years due to 1:Price of gas 2:lack of time

On a side note:
I played Modern Warfare 2 at my sister's house and it was AMAZING INTENSE AND AMAZING. Last game played before Xbox 360 at sister's house: likely Zelda OoT on computer and N64 (imho best game of N64(and destroys quite a few of current games))
meh
@Duoas,
The exchange rate shouldn't make any difference. If I buy something in the UK for £40 + VAT I would expect to pay http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=40+gbp+to+usd ($64.50) + VAT for it in the USA if the prices were the same. What is VAT in your country? Here it's about 15%.

Yes, I was just responding to the £1 == $2 guestimate.

The USA doesn't currently require a VAT. One or two states do, I think. And it is up for consideration at the Capitol. But for now the only markup is sales tax at the register.

Here it's about 15%

standard VAT it is back up to 17.5% now.

I would expect to pay...

You should also pay import duty on it, but if you are lucky it would slip through customs.

That's child's play. 21%.

I didn't know that existed.

Argh, stupid government.

That's child's play. 21%.

Ouch.

The USA doesn't currently require a VAT.

NOT FAIR.
