GNU movie editor

Anyway I want to find a free movie movie editor, I know GIMP had a small movie editor on the side but I was looking for something bigger.It also must be free, possibly made by GNU and hopefully opensource although as long as it's free I'm fine.
Am trying right now on my Ubuntu distribution ...
Funny you should mention a GNU video editor. That's something that's on their "high priority list": http://www.fsf.org/campaigns/priority.html#videoediting

try ffmpeg, it is a console program, but it works. My experience is all the free movie editors with a GUI are more frustration than they are worth.

Does ffmpeg have editing capabilities? As far as I knew, it was only a multiformat codec. What can it do? I wouldn't expect it to do much more than deleting sections of a stream and resampling of video streams.

@helios
It can take any container extract the raw video and raw audio. After that I take the raw video cut it up as I like and reassemble it so it is watchable. Every free video editor that I have ever used can not even do that well. As for what it can do I am not qualified to answer that question, but I have looked at some forum questions and it looks like others can do quite bit more with it then me.
How do you cut it up?
That's quite limiting. Raw video uses orders of magnitude more space than compressed video.
