Is it necessary to learn C++ and Java to get hired?

Aug 10, 2015 at 11:26pm
Hi I'm currently in the process of learning C++ and I wanted to know if it is necessary to learn C++ and Java? Or would it be more impressive to know C++ and Javascript. I believe as a person I'm more into back end development and I enjoy the low level manipulation of C++. I just want to know what other languages besides C++ that I can learn alongside it to make myself more appealing to employers.

Well, the nice thing about knowing one language is that the others are far easier to learn. Knowing C++ will make Java learning faster, and you can then branch out to even more. The more languages, the better.

I mean, if you really want a guaranteed job you can learn something like FORTRAN or COBOL, but those aren't exactly "fun" languages.

Nah, just develop in the language you want to develop in, but if you want a job the most important thing is to make some contacts. Get out and do some internships, discuss things, get into the community!
