@Disch

Since you don't accept PMs:

I c wat u did ther! ;)
hahaha.

I liked how you played along.

I wonder if he'll actually try running the program before turning it in.

Maybe it was a little mean.... but man that really does get tiring.

On a side note: I didn't even know this forum had PMs! I'll have to look around my settings here.

I really don't blame him for that.

Deliberately giving wrong answer ruins the reputation of the forum...and makes you look like a vindictive idiot.

LOL I have to disagree, Grey Wolf. What would ruin our reputation would be to give correct answers. Then people would think they can come here and just work off our backs.

I would rather he gave the wrong answer than the right one, although personally I tend not to give any answers at all.

I didn't say He should be given the correct answer, the correct response would be to tell him we don't do homework for people.
I kinda know what you mean, but it's just funny when this kind of thing happens; and frankly, he deserves it -- they don't even ask us to do their homework, they just expect it and post the question itself.

Fucking with people because you can (and taking the piss about it) is just bullying.
He deserves it? what, for not asking properly? Jes...
I don't disagree with you, Grey Wolf. I don't plan on making a habit of this. In fact I'll probably never do it again.

I guess I just get frustrated with how many people look to this site as a homework service. Maybe I felt like since my time gets wasted reading these posts (and occasionally replying with a 'correct response'), it'd be fun to waste their time on a wild goose chase for once. I know that's not really an excuse, but meh.

On the other hand I have a really hard time feeling sorry for him or even apologizing. If he paid attention in class at all and just glanced at the code he would see the code contained no typecasting, did not ask the user for anything, and did not fullfill any of the other requirements for his assignment.

And in a sense, this is kind of like a [hard] life lesson he should learn anyway. If you're given a responsibility and hand it off to someone else -- it's still your responsibility. And if that someone else screws up, then you screwed up.

Had he turned this assignment in and was approached by his teacher.. "but I didn't actually do the assignment, I gave it to someone else" wouldn't have been a valid excuse. Just like in the real world, if a customer hires you to do a job, and you hand that job off to someone else and they mess it up... passing the blame isn't going to work for the customer.

Now does all of that mean he DESERVED a fake response? I wouldn't go that far. But like I say I just can't bring myself to apologize

What I will apologize for is starting drama on the forums. I'm sorry, Grey Wolf. I thought we would just get a quick chuckle out of it and move on. I didn't mean to upset anybody (well other than the original poster anyway).
To be honest; I really don't see this as a particularly bad thing. Perhaps if it happened more than once or twice every few months (in my ~8 months here I've seen it done twice). Sure; it's inconsiderate, mean and what not. So? Posting homework questions and expecting someone else to do them is inconsiderate and mean. He shouldn't be so lazy; and if he doesn't want to do his work, should accept the consequences. I understand where you're coming from -- perhaps it was over the top, and as Disch said, shouldn't be made a habit of. But doing it once or twice...

And then when the poster comes back with that manner... well; if he didn't want a fake answer, he shouldn't have posted his homework in the first place!

Like Disch, I can't see why he should or would apologize.

Edit: why can't more people who join be like this: http://cplusplus.com/forum/lounge/16631/#msg83561 ?

I never asked anyone to apologise. I never would ask anyone to apologise as an apology should come from a person if they think they need to give one and not if they are asked/told to give one. I appreciate Disch's apology but there is no need.

"But doing it once or twice..." just leads to it being done more and more.

Sorry if I'm being a kill joy but I like this forum and would prefer it to stay civilised, for want of a better word.

Anyway, I'll shut up about it now.
Ok. I see what you mean, and I understand your opinion. I guess we can agree to disagree...

That's one of the things I like about this place actually. We can have these little (or big, in the case of the religion thing) arguments and then go back to normal. And we can avert flamewars.
... What did I miss?

That was unexpected. Wow! Now I kind of feel bad XD

I got scared a bit. I checked this during my break and at first glance I thought it was my account that got suspended. Then I noticed his name in the url.

Lol this code of Disch made my day :)). I guess I am not a good person either...

He deserves it? what, for not asking properly? Jes...

Whether razi3105 submitted or not, I it has given him a very valuable (and a bit harsh in the first case) lesson in life ...
That was very entertaining. It made my day xD. It was very well thought out, and excellently executed!
