Oct 22, 2009 at 11:29pm
The question is finally answered

Tic Tac Toe -> hours
Breakout -> weeks
Tetris -> weeks
Space Invaders -> a few months
Shoot em up like R-type -> 6 - 18 months
Pacman type game -> weeks
2D Platform game -> 6 months
Nethack Style RPG game -> months
simple 2D RPG game -> 1 - 2 years
simple 3D RPG game -> more than 2 years
simple Multiplayer 2D RPG -> 1 - 3 years
very simple 3D shooter -> 1 year - 2 years
3D shooter on par with Quake -> 5 years
3D shooter on par with Quake 4 -> 10 years
3D shooter on par with Crysis -> 50 years
MMORPG like World of Warcraft -> 200 years

But WoW isn't good...

I was just thinking that I would hate to get a big project going that I have to constantly work on... although I forgot why.

These estimates are way off... obviously. Blizzard's goal is to keep their horrible little product up and running for 200 years so that may be accurate.

If it's very simple it takes a few days

Depends on what you consider simple...

I've once made a game in which there were some randomly colored spheres moving around and you had to shoot them.
It took me two days to make it and it was quite fun.
That surely was a very simple 3D shooter

So just make all your projects open-source. Then you can abandon it after a week.

WoW is amazing I played trial, Why do you dislike it so much?

WoW is a good game if you have the time for it. Other wise it's a life consumer. The crap part is leveling to the max level - but once you're there the PVP and what not is actually really fun :)

I like Diablo 2/SC more then WoW...speaking of which, anyone here play those?
Oct 24, 2009 at 4:06am
That was a long time ago - But damn good epic games they were. I'm looking forward to giving SC2 a run - Hopefully it isn't full of fail.

Random question but did anyone play the empire earth series? EE1 : Great game, EE2 : Was good but took ages to figure out. Had shit sound quality. EE3 : Wow look at this it's so ... what the unit models are stuck? My jets in the water? Hang on this isn't realistic movement. And woah wait what? The uninstaller is broken?

I never seen a game fall so downhill like that one did.

Well, yes it was a long time ago, but really you should not be saying "were". They're still awesome games, and they're still sold in stores.

I still play them with my friends. Awesome multiplayer games. They show that content is much more important then graphics.

Haha I guess I used 'were' for the sake being of I don't still play them :P
