I have no problem with the big bang theory or any other theories that try to explain the unexplainable. Truth usually starts as a theory. My only issue is that these theories (evolution in particular) are forced onto society as the absolute truth in schools... yet they are just theories, and have tons of inconsistencies, just as the Bible does.

Theories (scientific) are analytic structures that attempt to explain a set of empirical observations. They do not try to explain the unexplainable, they try to explain the observable. I would rather be taught a theory based on facts than anything based on pure dogma (Creationism springs to mind).

^I would mostly agree with that, but I also would not want to have it said that "all other theories don't work." Which IMO is what they are trying to do, when they try to separate themselves from other theories even though their theory is basically the same.

There was once a big dispute over the theory of Darwinism and Christianity being taught in schools. Sprouting from this came a few laws that basically said that a theory may be taught but may not be correct. In other words, they may only teach you the concept behind the theory and not teach you why it is correct (not to be mistaken with why it COULD be correct). It is up to the student to decide what is right and what is wrong.

That, I think, is the best way to go about it.

But apparently a teacher in America was arrested for teaching Evolution theory in school, or something...

I once had a discussion with a 'person of religion' and it invariably came round to Darwin and fossils. I asked his views on the fossil record, his reply; Fossils were put there by the Devil too test peoples faith. I think my laughing brought the discussion to an abrupt end.

You should have brought up the relation between the decline of pirates and the increase of global average temperature.

lol I hate to say it, but that sounds like the typical Christian.

Discussing about Evolutionism, a 'friend'1 of mine stated that animals as well as ancient humans cannot forgive and don't have a soul as they didn't know Jesus2

Note 1: He is just someone I know, not a friend
Note 2: The year after he read a book on how to become rich with mathematics and in an other discussion he was stating the opposite of this

He sounds confused... theologically speaking, humans have always had a soul prior to Jesus' mortal arrival on Earth. Prior to Jesus death and resurrection the dead (their soul), good or bad, went to Sheoul, the place of rest. So there have always been a belief in the soul. Animals are supposed to be soulless. Theologically, souls (man) were created in the image of God.

How did the discussion with the person on Evolution move to animals forgiving and humans not having souls? lol

When we started talking of Hominidae and early Sapientes. For him - even if they were 100% as we are now - early humans were as animals, thus without a soul

He sounds confused...
He just wanted to be right without thinking much of what he was saying

I disagree fossils have reasons for being there, have you heard of creation science?
Fossils were created when the flood happened.
Any more?

Which fossils are you referring to?

have you heard of creation science?
Yes. And we've also heard of phrenology and astrology.

Fossils were created when the flood happened.
Please tell me you're being ironic.

More like profound sarcasm; I was educated in a Church of England School, that in itself ‘cured’ me of religion.

That's interesting. I went to a Catholic school and hated it, and am now left with a fairly strong dislike of religion, Catholocism in particular.

That's it. I can't take it any more.
Neither of you is old enough to have given what you're talking about any kind of deep thought, and your half brain-dead arguments are pushing me closer and closer to the edge of insanity.

Yeah. Way to generalise an entire age group...
In case you've forgotten, this is a religion-based argument on a forum on the internet. This isn't a university or some intellectual establishment, where you get points for making a compelling argument. Don't get so excited...

However, I think it is time to stop this discussion now. It's gone far enough, IMO.

Yes, it is some of the best comedy I have every read.

Edit:
I think that it time to stop the religious discussion (at least on my part). Ultimately it is a futile exercise, as no party involved will change there views because of a few words on the screen.
