I still don't think it's a security risk. If you don't trust the person sending the link, hover the mouse over it. In most common usable web-browsers it will state the true origin of the link. If you're using a text-only web browser, then it's time to upgrade to an OS with a GUI.
Yeah, but it's better to not have it there since I think copy/pasting the link is faster then using some tags, and even though you can check where it is going to, it is less annoying then just having the link there.
This is getting really weird, an external site is publishing a copy of cplusplus.com with an article which explains some uncommon BBcode working only under some circumstances on the true cplusplus.com
It would appear the site is from a Chinese university (imagine I made a joke about cheap Chinese bootlegs, here), and that part of the site is maintained by the CS department.
Nice bug! This was certainly not allowed on purpose...
I'm sorry, but I had to take it down - especially due to the hidden linking feature.
But, you guys are great! You are able to come up with every single way of abusing this, even if that takes resorting to old chinese writings... LOL
Since you're already here, I'd like to make a bug report. Threads stop appearing in http://www.cplusplus.com/forum/myposts.cgi if there's inactivity for some time. Also, the "new" icon in the same page can't be clicked to make it disappear.
EDIT: Oh, yeah. This one is also annoying. Thread appear to have less pages than they actually do. For example, right now, I can't go directly to the second page of this thread.
I could not replicate this. Are the disappearing threads bookmarked, subscribed or participated in? At what age do they disappear? days? months?

Thanks. It was broken. I fixed it. Please try again (flush your cookies if it persists).

Fixed, too.
I don't seem to be having this problem, I can see all the pages in the section listings.
I want to mention another top-secret thing:
when you delete a PM, it still exist somewhere in cplusplus.com database... So I opened an old pm and i saved its url. Then i deleted that PM and i pasted the url... And my old pm still exist! (url was www.cplusplus.com/member/pmshow.cgi?pmid=1096)
The question is Why?
Probably because we still have plenty of storage capacity in the server... Deleted posts are also somewhere, although not as accessible as you showed deleted PMs were -- I just removed its accessibility (fixed it) -- you will no longer be able to access deleted PMS. They will remain in the DB though - just in case of conflict, legal requirement or something like that...
Does it worry you that they are still in the DB?
Other users (me) can't access it.
That was never the case - they are still private, and only sender and recipient can access them (now only until deleted).
I could not replicate this. Are the disappearing threads bookmarked, subscribed or participated in?
Participated.
At what age do they disappear? days? months?
After only one or two days, I believe.

It seems like it works, but there may still be a bug. I just got an error message after clicking one after having visited the thread without refreshing the page.
But it may also be that the error always appears, I'm not sure.

Ok, I think it has to do with the ordering of messages - they are probably in another page. I will check into this tomorrow to do a better ordering of messages for users participating in many threads.

My fault. That was debugging garbage. It should no longer appear.
Another thing I'd like to report:
[something][/something] tags work on PMs in the same way as on public posts, it would be nice having the Format buttons in the 'Compose new private message' page
I have just improved the algorithm for sorting threads where very active users participated - now should make more sense, but feel free to comment any issues with that.
