It's not that much.
It's just less stuff, in a larger timespan.
Kind of like one to five a day. I've reported the posts four times (in the last week or two) and seen more being deleted from another user just as I wrote the post above.
I was thinking this as well. I've been deleting a spam post two out of three days and they tend to come in twos. In fact I just came here from deleting one o_O
It does feel like they've increased in numbers recently, but it's hard to know without data.
Looking at that link, and older ones, I find it amazing how all my "impractical observations" keep coming to fruition. Maybe one of these days you all will realize my logic isn't as crazy or impractical as you all think.
THere only 3-6 of those post at a time. Until they are able to post more they are found out and reported. There is not 15-20 pages outbreaks which takes tens of minutes to clean up. Everything returned to the way as it was before and what everyone was fine with: several posts which does not impact site usability and are relatively quickly deleted.
So those measurement which were taken are useful. They prevents spam storms which renders forum absolutely unusable.
I pointed out in a much older spam thread that called for twicker to take action, if twicker puts in restrictions, the users of the site would just shift their complaints. He put in restrictions and here we are with another thread about spam (okay, even I admit, I didn't see the complaint shift being from spam storms to spam).
In the thread linked, I pointed out that spambots would find a way around the system and be an issue still, but was passed off as being illogical worries. This thread shows otherwise.
So those measurement which were taken are useful.
Never said they weren't useful, but since you brought it up, it may stop the spam storms, but apparently aren't useful enough if we have restrictions and yet a new spam thread about spambots.
With the restrictions already in place, I am interested in hearing what you guys think can be the next step to combating said spambots might be.
@ BHX Specter: No one said that your concern was illogical, it was and is still completely valid. We said that the impact of it was inconsequential. There will always be spam, just like there is with Email. There is too much potential money in it for them not to try. But the steps taken have mitigated the effect and reduced the frequency of their occurrence a noticeable amount.
I think the current system is reasonable and manageable in its current state (unlike previously where you could get pages of the stuff), I've just been noticing a lot more spam bots in the recent weeks.
