On a windows operating system, win7 NOT vista! everything seems normal with the exception of a message stating that windows needs to be reinstalled in order to activate. This is suspected to be malware. The slmgr file has been rearmed recently. Thats all the information I can give out.
User GMER, to detect for Rootkit activity - If the hook is in Kernel Mode, you need to re-install it and if not perform unhook operation then remove the file.
I suspect you are using a cracked version of Windows as, slmgr is a Microsoft Windows Authentication module. If it is a cracked version of Windows - It is best you don't tell us as you would get your self in more trouble\hassle than needed. LOL not that any MC staff are here (I think).
Go to Safe-Mode, if it removed it must be a Malware, then scan your PC with a AV solutions, I recommend Malware Anti-Bytes or Kaspersky.
I backed up. There is no evidence (that I have found) that suggests that it was within the OS level boot process. If it is then it's outside OS level or it was a logic bomb (It would have a long prompt time because my machine hasn't been freshly booted (until now) in a long time. It seems to be a file already on my machine that is running in the background. After rebooting it has gone away. I'm waiting for it to appear, what do I do if it doesn't reappear?
