Getting in Better Shape

closed account (N36fSL3A)
Doesn't seem the right place to ask this, but I need to get in better shape for Football and wrestling. I've been slacking in working out through the whole Summer and lost a little muscle mass. I have to get back to being able to lift 160-170.(I can do it, but with a little more effort than before.)

I actually gained some of my muscle back by push-ups, and I've been starting to scarf down all the meat I can. (I don't really eat meat very much). So right now, I do 30 push ups every few hours, then I jog for 30 mins or so. The problem with this is I get really sore the next day, wasting valuable work-out time.

Any exercises that are good?

BTW - I mean American Football, not Soccer/Non-American Football

Oh, and please no weight training. I'm only 5'8 and I don't want to stud my growth.

I used to do circuit training back when I played Rugby.

I used to do a lot of those in wrestling. Any diet tips?

Didn't really think much about diet back then, just ate a lot spread out through the day.

Stop drinking all Soda (Or Pop if you wanna call it that) and try to just drink water and fruit juices. You can also add in some milk for dinner which I do to help with calcium. But mainly get off soda and energy drinks if you drink them because they are some of the worst stuff in my opinion.

Once I started just drinking water and juices/milk instead of all soda and energy drink I felt 10 times better and had much more energy.

For getting in shape in my opinion it's not really something you can do just in a few weeks it will take time.

If you lift make sure you are not putting to much weight on it (You should be able to do 15 reps pretty easily. If you can't lower the weight). And make sure you are switching up what muscle groups you work on. If you work on the same group all the time you aren't going to see as much results.

So just keep at it as much as you can (I do it once in the morning and once at night every day). I would also get out there and just do some old fashion jogging for your cardio.

Other then that I don't really do anything really special lately. I used to go to my uncle who owns a unique kind of gym and workout routine, but haven't went there for a few years now.

Basically the key is eat healthy food and drink healthy stuff and keep on working out.

Well steroids = smaller testicles, and that's what I don't need :P

I don't really drink much soda anymore because of preference, thanks for the tip Zereo. How long should I jog? Should I take some days off of it?

The thing is I don't want to look like a body builder, they look silly with their small heads and large muscles.
