About the Opportunity
The City of Prince George currently has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Support Specialist to join our team in Prince George, BC.
The Technical Support Specialist will be a member of the City's Information & Systems Technology Services (ITS) Site Administration team and be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the City’s data centres and related systems, resolving IT data centre issues for Business and Systems Owners in a timely and efficient manner, and providing training and orientation when required.
In order to qualify for this role, you will have a diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution combined with at least five (5) years of related experience, including a minimum of two (2) years in a senior technical position supporting Windows Server operating systems and Virtual systems software.
Advanced Professional Certifications in VW Ware (VCP) and Windows Operating Systems (MCSA) is considered an asset but is not required
This dynamic role is best suited for an independent and innovative self-starter with strong problem solving and organizational skills. You will be the go-to expert for all datacentre, virtualization, patching, anti-virus and server related issues and will, therefore, require excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain cooperative working relationships with other IT team members, city staff and external partners.
The ideal candidate will also have:
-Recent and demonstrated work experience and understanding of Microsoft’s Windows Server Operating systems, Microsoft SCCM, VM Ware VSphere, VM Ware Horizon View.
-Considerable knowledge of the characteristics and capabilities of enterprise-class computing infrastructures and associated software including SAN systems and NAS systems.
-In-depth knowledge of data centre design and operation, including Windows Server operating systems, virtual systems and other sub-systems.
Knowledge of ESXi server installation and configuration.
A valid Class 5 BC Driver's license (or out of province equivalent) is also required.
